Festival Program and Concept

On July 5 from 1 PM until after midnight, the first music, art, and talk festival “Spaits” will be held on the shore of Lake Kovšu in Rēzekne. Admission is free. The event is organized by SIA “Studeja” in cooperation with the Rēzekne Culture and Tourism Center. The festival aims to promote democracy, freedom of speech, youth creativity, and the strengthening of Latgale’s cultural identity, rooted in local traditions while incorporating modern elements. Visitors can enjoy professional art and music, and also actively participate in creative workshops, discussions about the city’s future, and sports activities.

Organizers and Partners

The initiators are SIA “Studeja”, consisting of Kristaps Višs, Ralfs Arbidāns, Imants Spīčs, and Emīls Bauga. They emphasize their patriotism for their city and region, and their goal is to create a grand, shared celebration for residents. Partners include MIKC “Latgale Music and Art Secondary School”, LMA Latgale Academy, the society “Unknown Rēzekne”, and other enthusiasts. The name “Spaits” means “ray” in Latgalian, evoking the sun, vitality, and infinity. It was discovered while browsing the Instagram account of the Latgalian cultural movement “Volūda”.

Musical Lineup

The main concert will feature a diverse lineup: ethno-jazz ensembles “Bruoli i Muosys”, “Šaļts”, and “Vysi vieji”; the “Latgales klezmeri” group; hip-hop artist Ūga and “Juos īluos līluos”; the Rēzekne orange choir; the Preiļi purple choir; folk group “Upīte”; singer Vinsents Kūkuojs and “Trikmīņs”; band “Cyble”; saxophone quartet “Rositten”; and others. The long-term goal of the festival is to become an annual tradition and one of the most prominent summer cultural events in Latgale.
