A new season with a Latgalian focus

The Latgale concert hall "Gors" has opened its new season with a special focus on the Latgalian language, Latgalian culture and its people. The season's first major event is the world premiere of the musical piece "Poem about O.R.", scheduled for Friday, September 18.

Honoring Anton Rupainis

The work was created to honor Latgalian writer, pedagogue, conductor, composer and public figure Anton Rupainis, whose 120th birth anniversary is being marked this year. Rupainis was a formative influence on cultural processes in Latgale, on the region's choir movement, and on the development of music education there. The piece was written by composer Ilona Rupaine, with Lāsma Zunda conducting.

Coinciding with a theatre festival opening

The premiere evening coincides with the opening of the 14th International Theatre Festival "Step by Step", bringing together two significant cultural events at "Gors" on the same night.

Themes that remain relevant

Although the piece centers on a historical figure, its underlying themes remain relevant today — identity, responsibility, the strength of community, and a person's place within their homeland. Organizers note that this continued relevance was part of what shaped the work as the season's opening production.
