Rezekne Municipality Police Continue Anti-Poaching Raids: Over 35 Illegal Fishing Tools Removed
For about a year, Rezekne Municipality police have regularly inspected public waters for compliance with fishing regulations. More than 35 illegal fishing tools have been removed this year.
The police of Rezekne Municipality have for about a year now been conducting regular raids on public water bodies as an addition to their routine work on public order. Their task is to ensure compliance with fishing and angling regulations. In Latvia, this responsibility has been delegated to all municipal police forces, meaning similar control is intended across the country.
To make the raids more effective, officers have gradually learned to use drones and other modern equipment. This makes it possible to spot violations that would previously have been harder to detect. This year, using such tools, they have removed more than 35 illegal fishing tools from the water, all of which had been used for unauthorised fishing.
The latest figures indicate that poaching in Rezekne district remains an acute issue. Despite stronger oversight, offenders still leave illegal gear in lakes and rivers, and municipal police raids are continuing.
