Rēzekne municipality continues assessing storm damage in Malta area

Rēzekne municipality is continuing, several days on, to assess and document the damage caused by the storm that struck on August 22. While roads blocked by fallen trees have already been cleared and reopened to traffic, the situation remains considerably worse in parish parks and cemeteries, where the extent of destruction is greater.

Arborists working to save museum building

In the Malta parish, a birch tree fell onto the building of a historic local history museum during the storm. Arborists have arrived on site to cut up and remove the tree in order to free the building and prevent further damage. Because the museum building holds historical value, the work is being carried out carefully to avoid causing additional harm to the structure.

Power supply issues persist

Municipal officials report that electricity supply across the municipality has still not been fully restored, with the crisis situation ongoing. This has exposed not only a shortage of technical resources needed to deal with the aftermath, but also a lack of qualified specialists required to fix damage and restore infrastructure.

The municipality continues to coordinate cleanup efforts across various locations, prioritizing the most hazardous and publicly important sites, including roads and public buildings. Work in parish parks and cemeteries, where damage is more extensive, is expected to continue.
