Director Ove Musting: Every Year I Browse Job Ads and Dream of a 9-to-5 Job
Estonian director Ove Musting, who recently finished filming the fourth season of the series 'Traitor,' reveals that working abroad is not as glamorous as it seems and that he occasionally considers taking a regular office job.

The filming of the fourth season of the series "Traitor" concluded in June. Director Ove Musting appeared on the show "Vikerhommik" and said that the shooting took place not only in Estonia but also in Malta and Poland, and it was not as enjoyable as one might think.
"We just finished filming there before Midsummer, spending a week away from Estonia," Musting said, adding that filming far from home may seem appealing, but in reality it was terribly hot and the crew was very small.
He noted that his father imagines a director's job as one where young girls bring him refreshments, cognac is nearby, a cigar is in his mouth, a hat on his head, and everyone does exactly what he wants. "But during such foreign shoots, you carry things yourself and you can't wait for a cold drink because there simply isn't one; you can only drink warm water," he added.
Musting does not want to consider the difficulties of filming as pleasant creative work. "Fantasy on paper is great creative work because then you can travel the world or imagine anything. But on the set, you are only engaged in saving the situation," he said.
Regarding budgets, Musting pointed out that small budgets are inevitable. "Until we join a larger state or declare war on Sweden so they annex us, we simply have no option for budgets to become larger. So we have to make do with what we have," he explained.
Musting recently worked on his feature film "Pig Slaughter" ("Seatapp"). "On one hand, it's a black comedy. I once thought about what genre human life belongs to. It depends, of course, on how we perceive it. It could be a drama, hardly a comedy, but I think a black comedy could well describe human life: there are funny moments, sad events, very sad events, absurd events, events you can't even believe," he noted.
"Almost every year I browse job ads on CV Online and think I'd like to work from nine to five so that after five I could go to training or home," Musting admitted, adding that friends often wonder why he has to work on weekends.
"People who live in a certain rhythm do not understand that such a routine can be very pleasant," the director concluded.
