RFS Win Latvian Football Title for Fourth Time
Riga club RFS beat Grobiņa 3-0 in round 35 to secure the Latvian Higher League football title. It is the club's fourth championship.

Riga-based football club RFS on Sunday beat Grobiņa 3-0 (2-0) at home in Riga in round 35 of the Latvian Higher League, the country's top football division, sponsored as "Tonybet". The result secured the Latvian championship title, which RFS regained after a one-season break.
How the match unfolded
RFS had a chance to score as early as the second minute, and shortly afterwards Žiga Lipuščeks sent a shot over the visitors' goal. In the 21st minute, Grobiņa players committed a foul on Darko Lemajičs inside their own penalty area, and Dāvids Družiņins was shown a yellow card. A penalty was awarded, which Stefans Pajičs converted to make it 1-0.
About five minutes later Lemajičs doubled the lead, heading the ball into the net from a cross by Alfa Balde. At the start of the second half Lemajičs broke away on a counterattack, but Grobiņa goalkeeper Roberts Ozols stopped the ball. Dmitrijs Zelenkovs scored the third goal in the 73rd minute.
What the title means
This is RFS's fourth championship in the club's history. The team previously won the title in 2021, 2023 and 2024. After 35 rounds RFS top the table with 89 points.
Last week Metta secured a return to the top division after a one-season absence. This season the league is played over four rounds of fixtures, with 180 matches across 36 rounds. The final round is scheduled for 8 November.
