RFS misses chance to extend lead at top of Latvian league
Latvian league leaders FC RFS were held to a 0:0 home draw by FK Liepāja, keeping their lead over the closest challengers at four points. A win would have stretched the gap to six points.
FC RFS, the leaders of the Latvian football Virslīga, failed to find the net in their home fixture against FK Liepāja, with the match ending in a scoreless 0:0 draw. Neither side managed to score across the full ninety minutes.
The result represented a missed opportunity for the Riga-based club, which could have extended its advantage over the nearest pursuers in the standings to six points with a win. Instead, having to share the points meant the gap remained at four points, unchanged from before the match.
Despite the draw, FC RFS retains top spot in the Virslīga table following this round of fixtures. However, the stalemate against FK Liepāja leaves the door open for their closest rivals to close the gap in upcoming matches.
