Rybakina to become world No. 1 after reaching US Open semifinal
Kazakhstan's Elena Rybakina won her US Open quarterfinal match on Wednesday, a result that guarantees she will become the new WTA world No. 1.

Kazakhstan's tennis player Elena Rybakina secured her place in the US Open semifinal on Wednesday, defeating China's Zheng Xinwen, who is ranked 121st in the world, in the quarterfinal round.
The match went to three sets, with Rybakina winning 3-6, 6-1, 6-4.
Guaranteed top ranking
With this victory, Rybakina has already secured the top spot in the next WTA world rankings, regardless of how she performs for the remainder of the tournament. This means the quarterfinal win alone was enough to guarantee the Kazakh player the highest possible position in women's tennis rankings.
