Riga's 21st White Night to cast the city in a new light
The 21st edition of the White Night cultural forum will take place overnight from September 5 to 6 in Riga, with over 30 cultural venues opening their doors. Concept author Līna Birzaka has told Latvian Radio how the city will be transformed after dark.
Riga is set to host the latest edition of its annual cultural forum, the White Night, on the night between September 5 and 6. This year marks the 21st time the event will take place, offering residents and visitors a chance to see the familiar city from a different perspective. More than 30 cultural venues across the capital will open their doors during the nocturnal celebration.
The forum's guiding theme this year is "The city blossoms where we are." Līna Birzaka, the program's concept author, spoke to Latvian Radio about the meaning behind the motto and how it will shape the event. She also discussed how Riga will change at night and the ways in which nature will be brought into the urban environment.
The White Night has traditionally provided a unique cultural experience, and this year promises to be no exception. Birzaka noted that the forum allows people to look at familiar places from a fresh angle, with the city revealing a different character after dark. Attendees will be able to explore both cultural offerings and the green spaces woven into the urban fabric.
