Riga FC come from behind to beat Super Nova 2-1 and stay one point behind RFS in Latvian league

Riga FC, a club from the Latvian capital, beat Super Nova 2-1 (0-1 at half-time) at home on Sunday, 18 October, in round 33 of the Latvian Higher League, the country's top football division, sponsored by Tonybet. The win leaves Riga second in the table on 79 points, one behind leaders RFS, who have 80 points after 32 rounds. The title race therefore remains open as the season nears its end.

How the match went

Super Nova took the lead in the 23rd minute, when Raivis Ķiršs put the ball into the home side's net. Early in the second half both teams were shown a yellow card. Riga levelled in the 68th minute through a precise long-range shot from Jagu Sikeira. About 15 minutes before full time, Mohamed Badamosi scored the winner, finishing accurately from close range after a cross from Raki Auani.

Riga had also won all three of their previous meetings with Super Nova this season, by 4-1, 3-0 and 1-0.

Other results

On Sunday Liepāja beat Jelgava 3-0 (1-0) at home. Andrijs Korobenko scored Liepāja's first goal in the 12th minute, and the team added two more within about seven minutes in the second half, scored by Abioduns Ogunniji and Joseph Oloko. Two of the three earlier meetings between the sides this season ended in draws, and Liepāja won the other 2-0. On Saturday Grobiņa beat Ogre United 3-2 at home.

On Monday Daugavpils host Auda, while RFS play Tukums 2000.

After 33 matches Liepāja have 46 points and Super Nova 38. Auda have 64 points after 32 games, Daugavpils 42, Jelgava 32, Grobiņa 29, Tukums 2000 24 and Ogre United 18.

The 2026 championship is played over four rounds of fixtures, with 180 matches across 36 rounds. The final round is scheduled for 8 November. Riga were the champions last season.
