South African soprano Pritty Yende performs solo concert in Riga
South African soprano Pritty Yende, one of today's leading opera stars, gave a solo concert at the Latvian National Opera on Friday, backed by the opera's orchestra under Spanish conductor Pablo Mielgo. Yende launched her professional career at this very opera house.
On Friday evening, the Great Hall of the Latvian National Opera hosted a solo concert by South African soprano Pritty Yende, one of the brightest stars of contemporary opera. She performed together with the National Opera's orchestra, conducted by Spanish conductor Pablo Mielgo.
A career that began in Riga
Yende is regarded in Riga as one of the opera's own, since her professional career began right there, at the Latvian National Opera. She made her debut in the role of Micaëla in Georges Bizet's "Carmen" and later delighted audiences in several gala concerts at the venue. Since then her career has developed rapidly, and today she is a regular guest at the world's leading opera houses, including the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Royal Opera House in London, the Paris National Opera, the Vienna State Opera and La Scala in Milan.
Wide-ranging repertoire
The soprano is known for her performances in both bel canto and celebrated French and Italian opera roles. Her repertoire includes Violetta in "La Traviata", Lucia in "Lucia di Lammermoor", Juliette in "Roméo et Juliette", and Adina in "L'elisir d'amore". Yende has won several international competitions and has released recordings with Sony Classical, earning wide international acclaim.
The concert drew classical music lovers to Riga, giving them a chance to experience the singer's vocal artistry and stage charisma live.
