On Friday, September 4, the 'Ola Foundation' cultural space opened 'Scenes and Landscapes,' an exhibition featuring the latest works by painter Dace Lielā. According to the organizers' website, the opening event attracted a number of art lovers, including a former president of the country and a government minister.

The exhibition presents works Lielā created in 2026. It opens to the wider public on September 5 and will remain on view until December 5 this year.

Landscape as a state, not a place

According to the exhibition description, the artist consistently returns to landscape and nature as central themes in her work. Her paintings are marked by nuanced detail and subtle tonal transitions rooted in direct observation of nature. However, the description notes that the nature depicted is not tied to any specific geographic location or time period — rather, it represents a generalized image of the natural world.

Dace Lielā herself has described her approach as painting the states of water and mood. She has said she works in contrast to the seasons — painting autumn scenes in spring, summer in autumn, and spring in winter. The artist has emphasized that she is drawn to visually capturing light, materiality, and the constant transformations of nature.
