Riga puts 49 resident project ideas to a vote, around 12 could be built
Riga residents can vote on 49 ideas that fellow residents submitted to the city's participatory budget contest. The municipality is ready to allocate over 2.8 million euros, which could fund 12 of them.

Residents of Riga, the capital of Latvia, can this year vote on 49 project ideas submitted by city residents themselves. The vote is part of the city's participatory budget contest, in which residents propose urban improvements. The contest is being held for the eighth year.
Largest sum in the contest's history
This year the municipality is ready to devote the historically largest amount to the contest: more than 2.8 million euros. The money is intended for improving neighbourhoods, developing sports and recreation infrastructure, adding greenery and providing other amenities.
The funding could make it possible to carry out 12 of the 49 ideas. This means only some of the proposals will be implemented, so the residents' vote will help determine which projects receive funding.
