Riga becomes most expensive fuel city in Baltics as diesel again tops two euros
Fuel prices rose in Riga and Vilnius last week, making Riga the most expensive place to buy fuel in the Baltics, while prices fell in Tallinn. Diesel exceeded two euros per litre in both Riga and Vilnius.
Fuel prices in Riga and Vilnius increased over the past work week, while prices in Tallinn declined, according to data compiled by the LETA news agency. By the end of the week, Riga had become the most expensive Baltic capital for both petrol and diesel.
Capital city prices
At a Circle K station on Krasta iela in Riga, the price of 95-octane petrol rose 9.6% over the week to reach 1.934 euros per litre on Friday. Diesel climbed 10% to 2.084 euros per litre — the first time since mid-April that diesel in Riga has again cost more than two euros.
In Vilnius, at a Circle K station on Savanorių Avenue, petrol cost 1.839 euros per litre, up 4.5% from the previous week, while diesel rose 1% to 2.059 euros per litre.
In Tallinn, the trend was the opposite: petrol prices fell 1.1% to 1.839 euros per litre, and diesel dropped 5.1% to 1.869 euros per litre.
Auto gas
Auto gas prices also moved differently across the three cities. In Riga, a litre rose 8.3% to 0.915 euros. In Tallinn, it fell 0.3% to 0.968 euros per litre, while in Vilnius the price held steady at 0.809 euros per litre.
Overall, by the end of the week Riga had the highest petrol price, while Vilnius and Tallinn were equal to each other. Diesel was most expensive in Riga, followed by Vilnius, with the cheapest diesel found in Tallinn.
