A user of the social network Threads has published a post about cars that, in his view, have been parked for years at the lot next to the Maxima store at Deglava Street 67 in Riga, taking up space needed by shoppers. The author points out that among the suspiciously parked vehicles are some without a valid-looking technical inspection for several years, citing as an example a car with an inspection sticker dating back to 2022. The post calls for these vehicles to be towed away.

Opinions split in the comments

The post sparked a discussion with mixed reactions. Some commenters questioned how serious the problem really is, asking the author whether he owns a car himself and whether the parked vehicles genuinely inconvenience him. The author replied that he does own a car and that the situation is a nuisance for all shoppers who arrive by car, arguing that the lot does not actually have that many free spaces.

Another commenter, who says she has lived near this particular Maxima store for many years, considers the lot large enough that there is always room for everyone. She also pointed out that the absence of an inspection sticker on a windshield does not by itself prove a car lacks a valid technical inspection, since that information is now tracked electronically.

Store's response

Representatives of Maxima also responded to the discussion, thanking the user for the report. The company said it would assess the situation in the parking lot and, if necessary, notify the relevant authorities. It added that the relocation of vehicles from the lot is carried out in accordance with procedures set out in legal regulations.

The author of the original post clarified that his objection is not to the parking lot itself, but specifically to vehicles that, based on his observations, remain in place for long periods without being moved.
