Riga IFF international jury highlights humour and editing in Latvian short films
Members of the international jury for the national short film showcase at the Riga International Film Festival praised the diversity of styles, the editing and the humour. On Latvian Radio they also discussed how foreign audiences read personal stories with local references.

Nina Rodrigues, Vincent Ferster and Aurélia Ass, members of the international jury for the national short film showcase at the Riga International Film Festival, have shared their impressions of Latvian short films. They spoke on the Latvian Radio programme "Kultūras rondo".
The jury assessed seven works in the showcase. According to them, the films by Latvian authors stand out for the diversity of their styles and a willingness to look beyond conventional frames. The jury members also noted strong editing skills and, above all, good humour.
What seven films say about the filmmakers
On the programme, they discussed what the works they watched suggest about Latvian filmmakers in general. They also addressed how an international audience understands personal stories that also contain local codes, and how viewers from outside Latvia read those references.
The Riga International Film Festival is a film event whose programme includes a national showcase of Latvian short films alongside its international offering. The works in that showcase are judged by a jury of foreign film professionals, so their assessment offers an outside view of local short filmmaking.
