Latvian football champions Riga FC played out a 1:1 away draw against Hungarian side Győr ETO on Thursday in the second leg of the UEFA Conference League third qualifying round. Having won the first leg, Riga advanced to the next stage with a 2:1 aggregate victory.

Match summary

The hosts took the lead in the middle of the first half when Željko Gavrić converted a penalty kick. In the second half, both sides picked up bookings — Riga's Raki Ouani and ETO's Klaudiju Bumba were both shown yellow cards. Riga later hit the woodwork, narrowly missing a second away goal.

Late in regulation time, Riga equalized through Kaju Ferreira, who scored after a pass from Andrés Salazar, restoring the club's aggregate lead. Győr ETO pushed forward during stoppage time in search of a winner, but Riga's defense held firm to secure passage to the next round.

What's next

In the play-off round, Riga will travel to face the winner of the tie between Poland's Lech Poznań and Faroese side KI Klaksvík. The aggregate winners of that play-off will advance to the Conference League group stage.

Riga began its European campaign in Champions League qualifying, losing 3:4 to Armenian champions Ararat-Armenia, before beating North Macedonia's Vardar 8:4 in the Conference League's second qualifying round. Elsewhere, fellow Latvian club RFS was eliminated in the third qualifying round by Czech side Jablonec, while Liepāja had already exited in the second round.
