Riga claim biggest win in club history, reach European group stage

Latvian football champions Riga secured an important victory on Thursday in the return leg of the UEFA Conference League qualifying play-off round, played at their home ground. The club finished the match with a numerical disadvantage on the pitch, yet still managed to secure the win needed to advance to the tournament's group stage.

With this result, Riga became only the third Latvian football club in history to reach the group stage of a European club competition. The achievement is being seen as a significant milestone for Latvian football, as such success has previously been reached by very few domestic clubs.

Playing a man down
