Riga beats RFS away to reach Latvian Cup final

In the semi-final of the Latvian football cup competition, club Riga won 3:2 (1:1) away against RFS, securing a place in the final for the second consecutive year.

Match course

As early as the third minute, following a corner kick, RFS forward Heidi Prenga put the hosts ahead. The lead lasted only a minute, however, as Reginaldo Ramires equalized for Riga right after.

In the third minute of the second half, Ramires scored his second goal of the match with a spectacular effort into the top corner from the middle of the penalty area, putting the visitors ahead 2:1. RFS managed to level the score in the 65th minute when Aleksandrs Filipovičs converted a penalty kick. But Riga had the final say, as Salah Oulad headed in the winning goal in the 76th minute, sealing a 3:2 result.

Road to the final

With this win, Riga reached the Latvian Cup final for the second year running. Their opponent will be Auda, the team that beat Riga 2:1 in last year's final. The final match is scheduled for late October.

The Latvian Cup competition has been held since 1936, during which 39 different clubs have won the trophy. Since Latvia regained independence, 13 different teams have lifted the cup.
