The second leg is scheduled for next Thursday in Riga. The aggregate winner will advance to the tournament's group stage, while the loser's European campaign will come to an end.

The game had few dangerous moments, with both sides sharing roughly equal ball possession. Riga had the edge in shots on target, five to two, while Klaksvík, usually a strong home side, earned twice as many corner kicks — ten to five.

Road to the play-off

Riga began its European campaign in Champions League qualifying, losing 3:4 in the first round to Armenian champions Ararat-Armenia of Yerevan. The club then moved into Conference League qualifying, beating North Macedonia's Vardar 8:4 in the Champions Path before defeating Hungary's Győri ETO 2:1 in the third round.

Klaksvík, meanwhile, beat Luxembourg's Atert Bissen 4:2 in the first round of Champions League qualifying before losing 0:1 to Lithuania's Žalgiris in the second round. The Faroese side then suffered a heavy 0:6 defeat to Poland's Lech Poznań in Europa League qualifying.

League standings

Riga currently sit second in the Latvian top division this season, having suffered only one defeat, while Klaksvík hold second place in the Faroese top league.

Among other Latvian clubs, RFS and Auda were eliminated in the third round of Conference League qualifying, while Liepāja lost already in the second round.
