Baltic Cup U-16 Basketball Tournament to Take Place in Riga This Weekend
This weekend, Riga will host the Baltic Cup for U-16 basketball teams, featuring national squads from Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia, along with guest teams from Spain and Ukraine.
From Friday, July 31, to Sunday, August 2, the Baltic Cup for U-16 men's and women's basketball national teams will be held at the Team Sports Hall in Riga. The tournament will bring together young players from Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia.
In the boys' competition, the Spanish U-16 team will also participate; their predecessors have won the European U-16 Championship six times. For the Latvian cadets, this tournament serves as the final test before important events, and they will be able to field their strongest lineup. The team recently added Benjamin Janis Berue, who was born in the USA and has already impressed in a test match against Israel, scoring 34 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Berue, along with Markus Jahovičs and Gustavs Vilcāns, has experience from last year's European U-16 Championship.
The girls' tournament will feature Ukraine's U-16 team as the fourth squad. The Latvian girls' team has prepared by playing two friendly matches against Finland, both of which they won, avenging a previous loss in the Baltic Sea Cup.
