The literary venue "Barona Tornis" (Baron's Tower) holds evenings dedicated to Latvian prose and poetry on the first Wednesday of every month. The second installment of its "20th Century Latvian Poetry" series recently took place, culminating in shared memories of Viktors Avotiņš, one of the leaders of Latvia's Awakening movement and a poet in his own right.

Shared memories

Several participants at the evening recalled Avotiņš as someone who was able to find common ground with anyone. The poet's widow also took part, sharing her own memories of him.

The "20th Century Latvian Poetry" series continues Barona Tornis's mission of regularly engaging with Latvia's literary heritage, bringing together representatives of different cultures within a shared literary space.
