Riga to host first event for families raising children in Latgalian
On October 17, Riga will host the first-ever event "Vierzeiba. Saimu dīna" for families who speak or want to speak Latgalian with their children. A linguist, a speech therapist and a musician will take part.
On Saturday, October 17, the development and play centre "Augstāk par zemi" in Riga will host, for the first time, an event called "Vierzeiba. Saimu dīna", dedicated to families who speak or would like to speak Latgalian with their children. The event's organisers announced the initiative.
The aim of the gathering is to give parents the opportunity to learn more about using the Latgalian language within the family and to get answers to questions they may have about raising children in a Latgalian-speaking or bilingual environment.
Specialists to share experience
Three specialists will share their knowledge and experience with attendees: linguist Sanita Martena, speech therapist Inese Smirnova and musician Kristaps Rasims. Each will address the topic of using Latgalian in the family from their own professional perspective, offering parents practical advice and expert insight.
Organisers note that this is the first event of its kind specifically dedicated to families interested in the Latgalian language.
