"Riga" convincingly beat "Jelgava" and become Virsliga leaders
"Riga" defeated "Jelgava" 3-0 and overtook RFS at the top of the table.

"Riga" celebrated a convincing 3-0 victory over "Jelgava" at home in the opening match of the 22nd round of the Tonybet Latvijas Virsliga on Friday, securing their seventh win in the last eight games. Raki Auani opened the scoring in the 11th minute after an assist from Zinedine M'Handa. Reginaldo Ramirez doubled the lead in the 48th minute, and Juan Christian sealed the win in the third minute of stoppage time.
Jelgava had won three consecutive matches before this defeat. Earlier this season, Riga thrashed Jelgava 8-0 in their first meeting, while the second match ended in a 2-2 draw.
With this win, Riga now has 55 points from 22 matches, surpassing RFS, who also have 55 points but from 21 games, as Riga holds the head-to-head advantage. Other standings: "Auda" 39 points (21 games), "Liepāja" 28 (21), "Jelgava" 25 (22), "Daugavpils" and "Super Nova" 24 each (21), "Tukums 2000" and "Grobiņa" 17 each (21), "Ogre United" 10 (21).
The 2026 season features four rounds, totaling 36 matchdays and 180 games. The final round is scheduled for November 8. Riga were the champions last season.
