Riga police rescue four from drowning, reunite 11 lost children with parents this swimming season

Riga Municipal Police have released interim figures for this year's swimming season, which has been underway since May 15. According to the Riga City Council's External Communications Department, officers have rescued four people from drowning during this period.

Beyond water rescues, Municipal Police officers also assisted lost children over the same period — a total of 11 children were found within the city and safely returned to their parents.

The council's communications department said the figures reflect the police's work throughout the swimming season, which traditionally begins in Riga on May 15. Police maintain a presence at and near the city's bathing sites to respond promptly both to incidents in the water and to situations where children become separated from their parents.

The municipality did not release further details about individual cases, but noted that both the rescues and the recovery of missing children point to the need for residents and parents to exercise caution near bathing areas and to keep a close eye on children in public places during the summer season.
