A passenger car and a route 1 tram collided on Ropažu Street in Riga shortly after 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, 8 November. One person was injured, the State Fire and Rescue Service (VUGD) told the news agency LETA.

Rescuers used hydraulic tools to free the injured person from the car and handed them over to paramedics of the Emergency Medical Service (NMPD). A second person got out of the car unaided. At the scene, rescuers disconnected the car's battery terminals and cleared the roadway.

Other VUGD calls

Shortly before 10:00 p.m., rescuers were called to Rožupe parish in Līvāni municipality, where a passenger car had driven into a ditch. Hydraulic tools were again used to free an injured person, who was handed to medical staff, and the battery terminals were disconnected.

At 12:28 a.m. on the night to Sunday, VUGD received a call to Raiņa Street in Lielvārde. A passenger car had slid off the road and hit the wall of a house. Five people got out before rescuers arrived, and rescuers used immobilisation boards to move the injured to the NMPD vehicle. Work at the scene ended at 1:43 a.m.

At 5:42 p.m. on Saturday, a call came from Ērģeme parish in Valka municipality, where two people had got lost in a bog. They were found on an island in an inaccessible boggy area, located using the coordinates they sent and contact by mobile phone. Work at the scene ended at 8:54 p.m.

Over the past 24 hours, VUGD received 52 calls in total: 17 to extinguish fires, 24 for rescue work, and 13 were false alarms.
