Riga's traditional 'Krastu' basketball match kicks off city festival
A 24-hour basketball match between teams from the left and right banks of the Daugava river began Saturday at Esplanāde square as part of Riga City Festival celebrations. The event is being livestreamed.

Riga City Festival celebrations gained a sporting addition on Saturday as the annual 'Krastu mačs' (Banks Match) basketball event got underway at Esplanāde square, near the Rainis monument.
The match pits a team representing the right bank of the Daugava river against one representing the left bank, with play continuing non-stop for a full 24 hours.
The Krastu mačs has become an established part of Riga's summer festival tradition, drawing basketball fans and participants for round-the-clock competition in the heart of the city.
