The 31st International Baltic Ballet Festival, titled “From Classics to Avant-Garde”, will begin on 20 October at the VEF Culture Palace in Riga. It is a dance event that brings performers from abroad to Latvia and presents both classical and more contemporary styles. The opening evening will feature a Kyiv modern ballet production, “I Love You”, set to music by the composer Pēteris Vasks.
What the programme includes
The festival's title points to the breadth of its repertoire, which spans traditional ballet and newer forms of expression. The programme also includes a flamenco show, described by the organisers as a celebration of flamenco in its purest form. Fans of contemporary ballet will be able to see a performance by a Berlin ballet company.
Beyond Riga
The performances will not be limited to the capital. Audiences will be able to see outstanding artists in Cēsis, Ventspils and Daugavpils as well, so the festival will be accessible to viewers in several parts of Latvia.
The source report gives no further details on ticket prices, other performance dates or the specific venues outside Riga.
