Riga is about to open another edition of the international contemporary art festival "Survival Kit", running for a month from August 28 through September 27.

As has become tradition, the festival's curators reinterpret the meaning behind its title — the idea of a "survival kit" — each year. In this, the seventeenth edition, the focus falls on the shared territory between art and healing, with curators framing care for oneself and others, along with the process of healing, as an essential element of survival in today's world.

The festival's subtitle, calling to "switch off the alienated observer mode," suggests this year's program aims for a more active, engaged relationship between artworks and visitors, moving away from detached spectatorship.

"Survival Kit" is one of Latvia's long-running contemporary art events, drawing an international circle of artists and visitors each year.
