Riga's official swimming spots: water temperatures range from 18 to 23 degrees

Riga Municipal Police (RPP) is calling on residents to spend their leisure time by the water at one of the city's nine official bathing sites, where qualified lifeguards ensure safety. The recommendation is particularly relevant during the hot weather, when more people seek refreshment in lakes, rivers and the sea. Unofficial swimming spots may not offer prompt rescue assistance if something goes wrong.

Lifeguards are present at the designated beaches every day from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. At night, when needed, help is available at six rescue stations: Vecāki, Vakarbuļļi, Lucavsala, Rumbula, Bābelītis and Ķīšezers. However, the municipal police point out that night shifts have fewer lifeguards than daytime, so swimmers should be especially careful after dark.

On Sunday, 2 August, the water temperature in Riga's official swimming areas varied noticeably. The warmest water, 23 degrees Celsius, was measured in the Bolderāja quarry. In Ķīšezers and Daugavgrīva the water reached 22 degrees, while Lucavsala had 21 degrees. In Vakarbuļļi, Ķīpsala and Rumbula the water warmed to 20 degrees. At Vecāki beach the temperature was 19 degrees, and the coolest water was in Bābelītis, where it did not exceed 18 degrees.

The data may be helpful for residents planning a swim, as conditions differ across the city. RPP emphasizes the importance of choosing official bathing sites to stay safe during the summer heat.
