Riga region police detain nearly 90 people over drug trafficking this year
Since the start of the year, police in the Riga region have seized more than 105 kilograms of narcotics and detained 89 people, some linked to organized crime groups.
The State Police's Riga Regional Criminal Police Department, Bureau 4, has seized more than 105 kilograms of narcotic substances from illegal circulation between January 1 and September 24 this year.
During this period, police detained 89 people connected to the illegal trafficking of narcotic and psychotropic substances. Authorities noted that some of those detained had committed the offenses as members of organized criminal groups acting by prior agreement.
The scale of the operations suggests that combating drug trafficking has been one of the priorities for police in the Riga region this year, involving the uncovering of both individual offenders and organized groups.
