Riga FC beats RFS in fierce derby, cuts lead in Virslīga

Riga FC defeated RFS 2-1 at home, reducing the league leaders' advantage to just one point after the first half of the season.

Riga FC claimed a vital 2-1 (2-0) victory over RFS in Wednesday's Tonybet Latvian Virslīga 18th-round match, played at their home ground.

The result tightens the title race significantly. Although RFS remain top of the table, their lead over Riga is now only a single point after half of the season has been completed.

Riga dominated the first half, building a 2-0 lead. RFS pulled one goal back in the second half but could not find an equalizer. With this win, Riga keeps the pressure on the champions, setting up an intense second half of the campaign.
