European U-16 basketball champions welcomed home in Riga
Latvia's U-16 men's basketball team, which won its first-ever European championship title on Saturday, was welcomed home with a ceremony in Riga on Sunday.

On August 16, a ceremony was held outside the Daugava Sports House in Riga to welcome home Latvia's U-16 men's national basketball team, which returned as European champions.
The road to gold
The tournament took place in Romania, where Latvia's team defeated France 75:69 in Saturday's final. This marked the first time in history that Latvia won the European U-16 championship title. Notably, the team completed the entire tournament undefeated, winning every single game.
Individual honors
Several players stood out during the tournament. Benjamins Janis Berue was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player, while Markuss Jahovics was also named to the tournament's symbolic all-star team, which recognizes the competition's top performers.
Homecoming in Riga
After returning to Latvia, the young champions were greeted at a festive welcoming ceremony near the Daugava Sports House in Riga, where fans and supporters gathered to celebrate the historic achievement.
