Riga stages new interdisciplinary show blending Baroque music with Greek mythology
A dress rehearsal for the interdisciplinary production "God Abandons Johann: Life Goes On" took place at the new "Raa Space" venue in Riga, inspired by 17th-century German composer Johann Fischer. The show unites Baroque-era music with performers from several countries.
On August 26, the new Riga venue "Raa Space" hosted a dress rehearsal for an interdisciplinary stage production titled "God Abandons Johann: Life Goes On." The project draws its inspiration from the life and work of Johann Fischer, a German composer and violinist active in the 17th century.
The production features live performances of Baroque-era music and vocal works, brought to the stage by an international creative team. Musicians, vocalists and actors from Latvia, Lithuania, Austria and Italy have joined forces for the project, giving it a distinctly international character.
A long-developing idea
The staging is the result of a creative concept that had been maturing for a long time, brought to life by director Helias Dzimoulakis, a Greek native who lives in Latvia. As the title and concept of the production suggest, Greek mythology also plays a role in the work, adding a symbolic layer to the blend of Baroque music and historical context.
The dress rehearsal at the new "Raa Space" venue marked a significant milestone on the way to the production's premiere, showing that the international creative team is ready to present its vision to audiences.
