Riga triumphs in derby against RFS, stays top of the table
Latvian Women's Football League champions Riga defeated RFS 2-1 in the crucial derby, cementing their position at the top of the standings.

In the most anticipated match of the Latvian Women's Football League season, 'Riga' secured a 2-1 victory over RFS, repeating last year's success. The scoring opened in the 17th minute when Signija Šēnberga found the net. Just before halftime, Vakani Mitani doubled the lead to 2-0.
Early in the second half, 'Riga' had a chance to extend their lead when they were awarded a penalty in the 53rd minute, but Jekaterina Haritonova missed the spot kick. Eight minutes later, RFS pulled one back through Anastasija Čemirtāne, making it 2-1, but no further goals were scored.
Following this win, both 'Riga' and RFS have 30 points, but 'Riga' has played 10 games compared to RFS's 12. 'Riga' has only dropped points against their closest rivals. In the standings, 'Metta' sits third with 18 points, followed by 'Auda' (15), 'Iecava'/'Olaine' (12), Rīgas futbola skola (9), and 'Rēzekne' (0 points).
The four-round tournament, featuring seven teams competing for the title, will conclude in November. 'Riga' are the defending champions, having won the league last season.
