Riga's Eastern Hospital saves life of football coach from Liepāja
Doctors at RAKUS performed a more-than-12-hour operation on a young Brazilian football coach working in Liepāja who had an extensive tumor in his abdomen. The patient has already begun walking again and continues to recover.
Riga East University Hospital (RAKUS) has carried out a complex oncological operation lasting more than 12 hours. The surgery was performed on a young Brazilian man who works as a football coach in Liepāja, Latvia.
The patient had been diagnosed with an extensive tumor process in the abdominal cavity. During the operation, doctors also administered chemotherapy, combining both procedures into a single prolonged intervention.
Latvian Television (LTV) reported on the course of the surgery and the patient's condition. Following the complicated operation, the coach has already managed to start walking again and is currently continuing his recovery at the rehabilitation hospital "Biķernieki" in Riga.
The case highlights the capability of Latvian medical specialists to carry out complex, lengthy operations for severe oncological conditions, combining surgical intervention with chemotherapy within a single procedure.
