Photos from a rental listing for an apartment in central Riga, Latvia, have circulated on the social network Threads. The listing describes the home as cozy, but the images, according to the news portal NRA, raise questions about hygiene, upkeep of the property and the landlord's understanding of comfort. The topic is relevant to anyone looking for a rental home in Latvia who encounters similar offers.

What the photos show

The pictures show worn-out furniture, an unappealing environment and rooms that appear not to have been renovated for years. NRA says such homes are often offered at a rent that does not match the visible quality.

The portal also points to additional costs: to get such a home, a tenant may have to pay not only the first month's rent but also a security deposit and an intermediary's fee.

Users' reactions

A woman commented on the photos on Threads. She expressed disbelief that anyone must pay for such an apartment and said she would like to scrub it with the cleaning product "Cilit Bang". In her view, triple the usual rent is being demanded, and a landlord can now be anyone who has no interest in making even minimal improvements.

Other commenters responded with irony. Nele wrote that you can sit in the bathtub and stir soup with your left hand. Māris called the apartment a dwelling "with a soul", while Zanda joked about the wall "art".

Ivita noted that the apartment has no hot water, so a stove was placed next to it to heat water. Rita recalled visiting a place where the toilet stood next to the gas stove, with no separate room.
