Southern part of Riga's new Central Station building nearly complete
A key stage of construction on the southern part of Riga's new Central Station has been completed, though full passenger operation must wait until railway tracks are finished in mid-2028.
An important milestone in the construction of Riga's new Central Station has been reached in the city centre, with the southern part of the building now finished. According to the LSM programme "Обсудим вечером", the platform and the adjacent square have taken on their final appearance.
While the exterior of this section of the building is now complete, the new station will only be able to fully receive passengers once the railway tracks are built. That work is scheduled for completion in mid-2028, meaning the facility cannot be fully operational until then.
The reconstruction of the Central Station is one of the largest infrastructure projects in central Riga in recent years, set to change both the appearance and the functionality of the city's railway hub. The project is being carried out in stages, and the completion of the southern section marks a significant step toward bringing the entire complex into operation.
