Riga Central Market to Adapt Vegetable Pavilion for Meat and Temporary Fish Trade

Riga Central Market is proceeding with the next phase of its long-term development plan, which aims to gradually renovate all historic pavilions by the market's centenary in 2030. As part of this plan, the former Vegetable Pavilion will be adapted for meat trade and temporarily used for fish sales while the Fish Pavilion undergoes reconstruction.

To begin the work, trading in the Vegetable Pavilion will cease on August 1, and by mid-August, industrial goods traders will be relocated to other areas within the market. Each tenant will be offered alternative solutions to ensure business continuity.

The adaptation will include renovation of floors and engineering communications, as well as installation of cold storage chambers and cooling systems. The total cost is estimated at approximately 1.9 million euros.

Ojārs Valkers, Chairman of the Board of SIA "Rīgas nami," stated that this is a significant step in the market's development, allowing sequential pavilion renovation while maintaining uninterrupted market operations. He emphasized that the coming years will require patience from both traders and customers, but the goal is to restore all historic pavilions by 2030.

Since 2023, when "Rīgas nami" took over the market's management, over 4.4 million euros have been invested in development and urgent works. These funds have been used to renovate the Vegetable Pavilion's roof, reinforce the Milk Pavilion's structures, and carry out other essential tasks.
