Latvia's State Police have informed the LETA news agency that a young man from Norway has been found dead in a canal in Riga. The discovery follows several days of search efforts.

Days of searching

On September 12, police had already informed media that they were searching for a missing Norwegian citizen, born in 2004. The young man had arrived in Riga on September 11 with a tourist group. He was last seen at night in the Old Town of Riga but never returned to his hotel, which prompted the search.

Body found in canal

Police have now confirmed that the young man was found dead in a canal in Riga. As is standard practice in such cases, a criminal case has been opened. However, the information currently available to police does not indicate any criminal act was involved.

An expert examination has been ordered to determine the cause of the man's death, which should help clarify the circumstances surrounding his death.
