The winter flight season at Riga Airport, Latvia's main international airport, will begin on 25 October, when the clocks change to winter time. Passengers will be able to take regular flights to 63 destinations in 30 countries, operated by 11 airlines. Compared with last winter, several popular routes will have more frequent service, and travellers can also expect some new routes.

New destinations

Latvia's national carrier airBaltic will add two new destinations this winter: Kuusamo in Finland and Turin in Italy. Norwegian, the Norwegian airline, will continue the flights to Bergen in Norway and Gothenburg in Sweden that it launched in the summer. FlyOne Asia will fly twice a week to Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan.

More frequent flights

Ryanair, the Irish low-cost airline, will increase the number of flights to Dublin, Milan, Malta, Barcelona, Malaga, East Midlands, Leeds and London. Flights to Malaga will operate five times a week instead of three, and flights to Milan eight times a week instead of six.

Other airlines also plan additional services. airBaltic will raise its London flights from nine to ten a week. LOT Polish Airlines will fly to Warsaw 20 times a week instead of 17, and Uzbekistan Airways will offer four flights a week to Tashkent instead of three.

Charters and Dubai

Charter flights to popular holiday destinations will also be available from Riga this winter. Flights to Dubai may resume as well: if the geopolitical situation allows, the United Arab Emirates carrier FlyDubai could restart service.
