Riga trolleybus driver wins hearts by carefully driving around hedgehog

In the usual rush of Riga traffic, small acts of kindness sometimes stand out. One evening, a woman travelling from Pļavnieki to the city centre noticed something unusual about the trolleybus in front of her. Around 22:15, near the Lienes iela stop, the vehicle suddenly slowed down and began to move in a curve.

At first, the woman could not understand why the driver was acting that way. A moment later, the reason became clear: there was a hedgehog on the road, and the trolleybus driver was carefully manoeuvring around it. Touched by the gesture, the resident, named Aija, shared her gratitude on social media.

In her post, Aija wrote that initially the trolleybus’s strange movement seemed funny, but once she realised what was happening, she found it very sweet and touching. She also tried to take a photo of the trolleybus, but because of the evening rush the picture came out blurry and the vehicle’s number could not be seen.

The post caught the attention of Riga Satiksme, the city’s public transport operator. In a comment, the company expressed joy that the hedgehog could continue on its way and reach its home thanks to the driver’s attention. The company promised to pass the passenger’s kind words to the driver and noted that such feedback is always inspiring.

Other social media users also praised the driver. Comments described her as a good soul and expressed hope that there would be more drivers like her. One woman said she was glad to see people who care about even the smallest participants in road traffic.
