Riga court begins hearing case against guard accused of spying for Russia

The Riga City Court today starts hearing a criminal case against a security guard accused of gathering intelligence in Latvia and passing it to Russian special services, as well as hooliganism and robbery.

The Riga City Court will start examining a criminal case at 1 p.m. today against Igor Andrejevs, who worked as a security guard. He is accused of collecting intelligence in Latvia and providing it to Russian special services. According to the charges, the information was passed through the pro-Kremlin criminal organization "Baltic Antifascists." Additionally, Andrejevs is charged with hooliganism and robbery.

The case is being heard for the first time today, and the court will decide on further proceedings. The defendant faces a severe penalty given the gravity of the charges related to national security.
