Rīgas ūdens commissions two solar power plants
SIA Rīgas ūdens has officially put into operation two solar power plants, which will reduce electricity costs and strengthen energy independence.

SIA Rīgas ūdens has announced the commissioning of two new solar power plants, located at the Daugava Water Treatment Station and the Daugavgrīva Biological Treatment Station. The company aims to lower electricity costs while reducing environmental impact and enhancing energy independence.
Krīšjānis Krūmiņš, Chairman of the Board of Rīgas ūdens, emphasized that the company constantly seeks to reduce costs and invests in solutions that strengthen infrastructure and reduce dependence on external factors. Initial results already confirm the effectiveness of this approach.
The Daugava water treatment solar park has generated an average of 150 MWh per month in recent months, covering 21–22% of the station's total electricity consumption. Meanwhile, the Daugavgrīva biological treatment solar park has produced 85–90 MWh per month, covering 6–7% of the treatment plant's needs.
The solar plant at Daugava was built in cooperation with the Central Finance and Contracting Agency (CFLA). The project has a capacity of 0.962 MW and total eligible costs of €1,087,355, of which €706,780 were provided by the European Regional Development Fund. The Daugavgrīva plant, with a capacity of 0.499 MW, was implemented with AS Altum, securing financing from the EU Recovery and Resilience Facility. Total costs here reached €658,263, utilizing an energy efficiency loan with a capital discount of €126,397. The remaining costs for both projects were covered by funds raised through the issuance of European Green Bonds (EuGB).
The company is also continuing work on the expansion of the Daugavgrīva biological treatment station's methane tanks, which will increase biogas production from sewage sludge and strengthen the station's energy neutrality.
