Riga Zoo invites first- to fourth-graders to themed days during autumn break
Riga Zoological Garden will hold themed days for pupils in grades 1–4 from 19 to 22 October. Participation costs 25 euros per child per day and requires prior registration and payment.

Riga Zoological Garden will host themed days for pupils in grades 1–4 from 19 to 22 October, during the autumn school break. Each day has its own topic, and children will explore the animal world through guided tours, hands-on activities and creative workshops led by zoo specialists and guides.
Programme by day
On 19 October, the day “Body parts or animal superpowers?” will focus on animal anatomy. Children will find out why animals need fins, long ears, claws or special teeth, observe animals in person and meet the zoo's species ambassadors. In a creative workshop, each child will invent an imaginary animal, giving it a name and special abilities.
On 20 October, “How to care for animals?” will deal with animals' health and well-being. Pupils will learn about caring for pets, assess on a research walk how animals' needs are met at the zoo, and make environmental enrichment items that keep animals active and curious.
On 21 October, “Get to know the world of birds!” includes a tour of the zoo's birds and a talk about the most common wild birds in Latvia. In groups, children will build bird feeders, and one of them will be placed in Mežaparks at the end of the day.
On 22 October, “Every animal has its home!” will look at the inhabitants of forests, meadows, bogs and other natural areas. In a role-play, pupils will take on animal roles to understand how animals coexist, cooperate and affect one another.
Participation and registration
The activities take place at Meža prospekts 1 in Riga. Children can arrive from 9:00, and the programme runs from 9:30 to 13:30. The fee is 25 euros per child per day.
Participants must register by paying the fee and completing an application form at www.rigazoo.lv/tematiskas-darbnicas. After registration, further information will be sent to the given e-mail address, and the child's legal representative must fill in and sign a consent form. Some activities are outdoors, so children need comfortable clothing and footwear suited to the weather, a packed lunch snack and a water bottle.
Since a reorganisation on 1 August 2026, the zoo has been part of the municipal company SIA “Rīgas meži”, which manages forests, Riga's parks and Mežaparks.
