After one season back in Latvia, Rihards Marenis is heading to Poland. The forward has signed with Unia Oswiecim of the Polish Hockey League.

Last season, Marenis served as captain of Zemgale/LBTU and led the team in scoring. In the regular season, he recorded 54 points (23 goals, 31 assists) in 36 games, along with 116 penalty minutes. In the playoffs, he added 11 points (5 goals, 6 assists) in 11 games with a plus-9 rating, but Zemgale lost the final series 1-4 to Marenis's former team Mogo/RSU.

Marenis played in North America until age 25, then joined Dinamo Riga in 2018. In two KHL seasons with Dinamo, he had nine points (5 goals, 4 assists) in 69 games. He later moved to Sweden, climbing from the third division to the top league, where he scored one goal in 19 games. Before returning to Latvia, he also played in Germany's second league, posting 17 points (9+8) in 21 games.

Internationally, Marenis has appeared in three World Championships, totaling two goals and four penalty minutes in 21 games with a plus-2 rating.

Unia Oswiecim finished fourth in the regular season last year with 79 points in 40 games and placed fourth in the playoffs as well.
