The international airport in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, was attacked again on Saturday, 10 October, in what a diplomatic source says was a missile strike by Yemen's Houthi movement. Saudi authorities have not confirmed a new attack or an evacuation of the airport.

A source at a hospital in the Saudi capital said dozens of people were injured, most of them Saudi nationals. At least five of the wounded were treated in an intensive care unit.

Witness accounts

Several witnesses said people were being evacuated from the airport on Saturday, while officials urged passengers to check the status of their flights. One witness waiting to board said they heard an explosion, and another said they saw a strike that wounded people. According to that witness, who was at gate 403 of the domestic terminal, gate 401 was hit; they saw the injured in front of them and everyone was running.

Impact on air travel

The Canadian, German and Spanish embassies in Saudi Arabia warned their citizens to avoid the airport after reports of the latest attack. Kuwait Airways said it cancelled two flights, KU775 from Kuwait to Riyadh and KU776 from Riyadh to Kuwait, citing the closure of the airport because of the security situation.

Earlier attacks

The incident came two days after attacks on Riyadh's international airport on Thursday in which three people were killed.
