Kuusemäe and Järveoja, who left Estonia's Riigikogu, to receive nearly €40,000 in compensation each
Two Estonian Reform Party lawmakers whose Riigikogu mandates ended after former ministers returned to parliament will each receive compensation equal to six months' salary — almost €40,000 apiece.
The mandates of Reform Party faction members Katrin Kuusemäe and Toomas Järveoja in Estonia's parliament, the Riigikogu, ended the previous day. As a result, each will receive compensation equal to six months of a lawmaker's salary.
The end of their mandates is linked to the return to the Riigikogu of former ministers Hanno Pevkur and Andres Sutt. After being relieved of their government duties, their mandates as members of parliament were restored as of September 16.
Under a decision by the Riigikogu leadership dated September 15, Kuusemäe and Järveoja were granted compensation equal to six months' salary. The current salary of a rank-and-file Riigikogu member is €6,655.81 per month. As a result, each of the two former lawmakers will receive roughly €39,935 before taxes, bringing the total payout to nearly €79,900.
The decision on the payments was signed by Riigikogu Speaker Lauri Hussar.
