Rinkēvičs receives honorary doctorate from Klaipėda University

President Edgars Rinkēvičs, while on a state visit to Lithuania, accepted an honorary doctorate from Klaipėda University, as announced by his adviser Mārtiņš Drēģeris. The degree was conferred for his role in strengthening Latvia-Lithuania relations and defending European values. In his acceptance speech, Rinkēvičs thanked the university and underscored its importance as a partner in Baltic scientific and educational collaboration.
He highlighted the shared history of Latvia and Lithuania, support for Ukraine, and the need to bolster European security through defense capabilities and alliance cooperation. He also emphasized that the European Union is founded on democracy, freedom, and the rule of law, calling for the preservation of an international rules-based order and continued support for countries striving for democratic development.
The visit takes place at the invitation of Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda. The two leaders are discussing bilateral relations, regional security and defense, as well as support for Ukraine.
