President and PM propose limiting access to officials' declarations
President Edgars Rinkēvičs and Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs discussed making officials' income and property declarations accessible only to identifiable persons, citing national security concerns.

Latvia's President Edgars Rinkēvičs and Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs, of the "Apvienotais saraksts" (United List) party, met on Wednesday to discuss the possibility of restricting access to officials' declarations so that they would be available only to identifiable individuals.
Security concerns raised
Both officials pointed out that information currently available in public declarations, when combined with data previously leaked from the Road Traffic Safety Directorate (CSDD), could pose a threat to national security. They suggested that such a combination of data could potentially be misused, including to identify and track officials.
Call for further discussion
Following the meeting, Rinkēvičs and Kulbergs proposed launching a broader discussion on possible solutions to limit access to the content of declarations while preserving their role in public oversight. No specific proposals or changes to the legal framework have been announced so far.
